Becoming the Beloved: Henri Nouwen and Christian Identity: Discover the truth at the heart of the Christian life: you are God’s Beloved. Based on Henri Nouwen’s cherished book, Life of the Beloved, this course will explore what it means to be crafted in God’s image. According to Nouwen, being beloved means being Chosen, Blessed, Broken, and Given.
Participants will explore these themes, along with some spiritual practices that can help us live these important truths. Whether you are new to the faith, seasoned in the faith, or skeptical of the faith, this retreat offers the space needed to rediscover who you are in Christ.
Nouwen’s books provide many practical insights into how we navigate the complexities of our spiritual lives. This course will highlight some of the major themes in Nouwen’s library, while interweaving important biographical scenes from his life and ministry. Participants will not only gain a deeper appreciation for this important teacher but will also gain a deeper understanding of their own spiritual lives.
Henri Nouwen had a unique ability to describe the spiritual life with simplicity and ease. This course will highlight the central teaching found in Life of the Beloved, while interweaving important biographical scenes from Nouwen’s own life and ministry. As 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of his death, this is the perfect time to explore one of Henri Nouwen’s most popular and influential books.
