2025 Inspired by Nature

Nature can offer an escape from the noise and chaos of everyday life.  This workshop will capture and celebrate those peaceful places in the natural world by observing pattern, texture and colour and the using these observations to inspire artistic creations.

In this workshop students will be starting each day with a creativity exercise to get those ideas flowing! Then working with their chosen images and text, we will dig into the elements of design and how they apply to your source of inspiration. First by experimenting on paper, then using a series of textile techniques we will bring those design ideas to life on fabric. We will be working with Procion MX dye and screen print inks to paint and print in combination with drawing and stitch. Students will consider the possibilities of scale and repetition with their designs.

Students can approach this workshop as a series of samples and explorations or work with intention towards a goal. As always design will form a big part of our study and samples often have a way of coming together to create a unique textile masterpiece.

So think about your favourite places in nature, the ones that encourage you to breathe deeply. Or maybe some of your favourite quotations about nature – they will be a wonderful starting place.
